Because well-written, well-acted, great TV is simply great TV. Bad shows are bad shows, plain & simple. The best shows can appeal to a broad audience, and not just a particular ethnic group.
I grew up in predominantly minority area of L.A. but I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer - and Sunnydale is easily as snow-white as anyplace ever created in TV-land.
I also love the Bernie Mac Show & Seinfeld, and I don't live in a Jewish burrough of New York...

Never saw Gilmore Girls but can't see what being black has to do with it. If it's a good show then it's a good show - simple as that.

The same reason an old white female who lives in box town that loves to watch anything with Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Queen Latifah, Morgan Freeman, Ice-T (who is on Law & Order:SVU), Whoopi Goldberg, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Raven Symone, and so many others to list.
