ummm,,,,, you got it all wrong.

only a different length plug will fire hotter,,,, nothing to do with gap.
a little bit longer plug (very little, dont slam holes in the piston) will give you a hatter fire,,, a lil more horse,, but it will in turn make the motor run hotter, by a few degrees.

opening the gap will actually weaken the fire,,, make it cold.
closing the gap will burn the plug out in no time.

work with different LENGTHS of the plug itself to get what yer after.

and always set the gap normal

I've seen an overly large gap do just that when dyno testing a Saturn engine - power and fuel consumption both went up. However, there is usually a best point that should work for normal use. If you have the factory original ignition, use the manufacturer's recommended setting. Upgraded ignitions can run larger spark plug gaps.

it really has nothing to do with power as much as the resistance, if you have to short of a gap the spark will jump to easy and you will have less spark and if its to big you wont be able to jump gap and things will burn out in igniton and the car will run hard and stall out and missfire, the gap does not affect power as far as adding it like a bolt on part, its more for the type of the igntion system, and power needed to make car run right. race cars use higher gaps because they can jump them easier with their high power ignitons and the cars we drive dont need that because it woulodnt be able to jump the gap and create spark.
