Was it an actual cockroach or a palmetto bug? I don't think palmetto bugs can live up north, but a cockroach certainly can. (Palmetto bugs are about 1.5 - 2 inches long and fly, and usually live outside. They look a lot like cockroaches. In fact, they might be a type of cockroach, I'm not sure.)

Definitely yes. Cockroaches are the mother of all pests. They always seem to survive just almost anything.
You've heard that cockroaches could survive a nuclear blast. That's in theory, but they are so adaptable that maybe, just maybe they can survive.
