Were they "factory" brake pads? At 45,000Mi. or two years on normal "wear-tear and routine maintenance intervals" it could be time for replacement pads.
Are you constantly doing "hard-braking" all of the time, or "riding" the brake pedal?
If you are practicing "poor-driving" habits then you will have more to worry about and will spend more money on replacement parts because of it, as well!
How you are driving and abusing your Civic, will depend on future "issue's'' that you will encounter.
Check your driving habits most of all; that will determine your current and future "issue's" with your Civic or future car that you drive.
Good luck! This sounds like a normal interval on "routine maintenance," though....

That sounds about right..brake pads are usually changed every 30-40 K miles.... (in normal driving conditions..and daily driving)

Are you "riding the brakes" all the time? Stop doing it.
