People act the way they do because of their personalities. They have strengths as well as weaknesses for each of them. Most people cannot control the way they act or feel because of who they really are. Therefore, the fact is that you cannot change a person; only God and time change him or her.

Your question is somewhat answered by your statement following the question.

If one needs to experience a tree, how many books about trees will the person need to read in order to satisfy his need?

My point? Other than the obvious, is that numerous names are given to every variation of Man, just as every tree is described, named, and discussed in abstract terms in books [but reading about a tree will not provide you an experiential grasp of it], just like you will not comprehend a person's personality structure until you understand your own.... fully, including those parts thought by some to be unknowable.

Names provide you intellectual information, and that's all. Tons of information will never = experiential knowledge of that which the words point to, but words do not experiential reality convey.
