Well, yes. If the first one came back negative, you could have taken it too soon. This is called a false negative. If another one comes back positive a few days later, it means that you just took the first one too early. A doctor can tell you for sure, they will do another test or maybe even an ultrasound (sometimes done to check for tubal pregnancies, I'm not sure if those have any effect on a test coming back negative or not).

Yes. If the second one was positive and the first one negative, you are most likely pregnant (99.9%). It might have been too early for the first test to detect the pregnancy.
There is a chance of getting a false negative, chance of getting a false positive is extremely low.
Results like that mean that you're most likely pregnant.

False negatives are common. Usually the test is taken too early and the HCG hormone (that the home pregnancy tests, tests for) is too low. False positives are very rare if the test is done according to the directions. Most say not to read for three minutes and after 15-20 then do not read.

Thats what happened to me in March/06. I took 10 pregnancy tests in one week and 4 out of 10 said I wasnt. I even went to the walk in clinic and they said I wasnt. I was! The problem is that some pregnancy tests are more sensitive than others and that is why you get different results. BTW I also had a test that was defective. You should make an appointment with your doctor and find out for sure through a blood test. They can detect HCG hormone easier that way. That what they did for me to make sure.

Positively! If early in pregnancy the levels of HGH (human growth hormone) are low. That could account for the negative. Taking test first thing in morning is most accurate. (the urine is most concentrated) See the doctor for definitive results. Of course there have been false positives, but they are less common than false negatives.

Yes, generally an hpt might give a false negative because your body might not have produced enough hgc hormone yet for an hpt to detect. I haven't heard an hpt giving a false positive reading. Since you have one positive hpt, then I would go to the OB and get a blood test, which will tell for sure if you are pregnant.

pregnancy tests are more accurate when they say that you are positive than when they say that you aren't. I had a nurse tell me if one did that and the other showed different to go by the positive one because the neg. one is probably the wrong one. Most of the positive ones are 100% accurate! You should go to your doctor! CONGRATS

Yes, I always heard that you can get a false negative result but not a false positive.

Yes.....Go to http://www.peeonastick.com and read all the info on pregnancy tests. You should re-test though using first morning urine and do not read the results after the 10 minute mark.
Good luck
