I just bought an AWD Chevy Trailblazer SS and I love it. It has a 391 HP 366 CI Corvette engine and wow is it fun to drive. Being in the Snow Belt we need the all wheel drive. Gas mileage doesn't matter to me, I'm an old hot rodder so power takes precedence. My former daily driver was an S10 Blazer with a 4.3 which was "peppy," but not fast. I love big V8's. The handling package in the TB SS is great, you can punch it going around a corner and the traction control keeps the tail end from coming around on you. If I need to haul stuff, it has plenty of room with the rear seats folded down. The factory 20" wheels give you some bling for the buck if you are into that stuff. I got mine in black of course. One ski magazine guy voted it best ski trip vehicle out there and I agree 100%.

Decide for yourself what attributes you want in an SUV and then identify the models which meet that criteria. Once you have your list, search the web for forums dedicated to that model, make or style of SUV and see what owners of those models have to say. Look for Consumer Reports reviews and road test reviews from car magazines and online car sites. Once you have armed yourself with all the info you can find, go to dealers and test drive the vehicles, see if you can drive ones which are outfitted most like what you want to buy.

I love my Avalanche, but wouldn't buy a new one - Chey sissified them pretty well.
