I am almost 36 weeks does anyone know if you get another ultrasound before birth? Because if my sister hadn't felt a decrease in movement with her child then the doctor wouldn't have known he was breech, until it was time to deliver and she had to have c-section because of his position, so I was just wandering if anyone knows if they give ultrasounds if there isn't a decrease in movement.

If her doctor knew what he was doing, he would know if the baby was breech even WITHOUT doing an u/s. All you have to do is find where the HB is and feel around for baby's parts. A skilled caregiver will be able to tell you the baby's position just by touch. My midwives were always able to tell baby's position w/o an u/s and even drew the baby on my belly twice for my older children to see.

AND...breech DOES NOT always mean a c/s. Some caregivers will deliver breech babies. Some breech babies can be encouraged to turn by mom. Sometimes a doctor can turn them. My third was breech late in my pregnancy, but I did exercises to encourage her to turn and it worked.

Some caregivers actually follow the ACOG's guidelines that say that ultrasound SHOULD NOT be a routine procedure and don't do ANY ultrasounds unless there is a medical indication that one is needed. Others choose to ignore that guideline and schedule one or more "routine" ultrasounds for all their patients.

I had one "routine" ultrasound at 16 weeks with my first. I had NO ultrasounds with baby #2 or baby #3 because I saw different caregivers who only did an u/s if there was a medical indication for one. All three were normal, uncomplicated labors and births with healthy babies.

Most times a doctor would order one if he or she feels that the baby is a large baby and mom may not be able to vaginaly deliver. Decreased movement is normal for this stage. The baby doesn't have enough room to maove as they used to. If you don't feel any movement try this. Get a large glass of ice water, lay on your left side and drink. Within the hour you should feel a small amount of movement. If none you can always either go to labor and delivery in your hospital, or go to your OB doctor and they should be able to use the doppler to find the heartbeat.

Mine didn't unless there was a problem, I had two kids, with one I only had two ultrasounds, at the beginning and towards the middle, with the other I did have one just before birth because my blood pressure got too high, usually the doctor can feel what position the baby is in, if he thinks there is a problem then he will order another ultrasound.

I didn't have more than just the one ultrasound with my daughter. Every visit though, the doctor would feel around on my belly and try to locate the head to see that the baby had changed positions. I think it's hard to predict though because baby's change position so quickly!

Doctors should be able to tell if the baby is breach just by feeling the stomach. He is trained to feel the head and such. I dont believe at or after 36 weeks i had any further ultrasounds. If your doctor feels its necessary, then i'm sure he will do one but i doubt it.

Most of it is up to what u and ur dr decide. If u want one ask for one and u will get one. With high risk pregnancies they are used much more frequently. With lower risk pregnancies sometimes u don't get one at all. Remember u r the consumer and whatever u want they need to do it and if they don't it is never too late to pick a different medical provider. Good luck.

They don`t normally but if you feel there is a problem then inform them about it only you know how your body feels and how much the baby is moving. But they don`t normally give out more then two scans unless they think its right to do.

If you are like 38 weeks and not dialating then they usually do one once a week until the baby is born just to make sure that he/she is okay and is still progressing.
