I saw an old lady one night in a house I was living in. I went down stairs to get a glass of water and she was standing a the bottom of the stairs. I thought she was a relative of the people I was staying with. I started to explain who I was when she just walked away down the corridor and through a door. I opened the door and nobody was there.
The next morning I mentioned it to my friends whose house it was and they said that she was a woman who had lived in the house about 20 years ago and had died there. They said that 2 or 3 other people had seen her too. Their description was the same as the old woman I had seen.
She didn't really "cheer me up," but I sure thought it was interesting...........

Depends on the identity of the ghost!
When I have been visited by the spirits of those I knew, I am overcome by calm and a 'knowing' of their identity, even if they are not visible.
Those experiences have been joyful and comforting one's.
