I actually used to know the name of the Rugby Player who, 100 or so years ago, was the first to pick up the Rugby Ball and run it down the field for a goal.

The Rugby Playing field is still located where it was on that day, it's a High School Rubgy field located in, appropriately enough, the town of Rugby. Seems like it's in Warwickshire. I visited it once just to see where the game of football started... and I expected to see some big arena or monument to the event, but I don't remember seeing anything other than a High School Rugby Field... nothing spectacular.

The origins of football are pretty vague. The game that flourished in the British Isles seems to have originally been open to as many players as wished to play and the rules were virtually non-existent (for example, according to an ancient handbook from Workington in England, any means could be employed to get the ball to its target with the exception of murder and manslaughter).

Football as we know it today was founded in 1863.
