BAGHDAD, Iraq, Aug. 28 — Members of a Shiite militia killed at least 15 Iraqi soldiers in fierce fighting today in the southern city of Diwaniyah, Iraqi officials said.

Some of the soldiers were executed in a public square after they ran out of ammunition, said Maj. Gen. Othman al-Ghanimi, the commander of the Iraqi army in the area. He said that the fighting began overnight after soldiers arrested a man linked to the Mahdi Army, a militia loyal to Moqtada al-Sadr.

Yes it's a bad sign for Iraq, and it's more of the same. This in fighting has been going on for centuries and will continue until Iraqis (and all Middle Eastern countries) learn to separate church from state. It's a kind of undeclared civil war.

well maybe if the shi'ites didnt fight like Pu.s.s.i.e.s. we wouldnt have that problem, considering most of the iraqis like us being there. If terrorists didnt flock from other countries to fight us there would even be attacks against troops. the shi'ites are just mad because they cant slaughter innocent civilians with government support anymore, i.e. Saddam doesnt allow it.
