Intel Core Duo processors are used in laptops while the newer Intel Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processors are used in desktops. Technology from Pentium M processors are incorporated into Core 2 Duo to make them more energy efficient. Core 2 Duo are more powerful than the Core Duo chips and will be used in laptops in the near future.

it is how they process information and the process per clock cycle. The core 2 duo's are only out for desktopp computers as of now because the kicked AMD in the pants in every single benchmark, so they are the company to go to for gaming processors.
The core 2 duo will be used in laptops soon enough, but for nowits the best for gaming. The big difference is just how they process information. I believe that dell will be supplying laptops with the c2d chips at the end of november.
