Dispute/debate is what a thesis director is for, isn't it? Where'd he go?

You do NOT have to agree with the thesis director -- they are there to help you determine what will pass the review of the results of your graduate education -- and to make sure you cross the 'ts' and dot the 'is' -- not to comment on why they would disagree with your position (and yes, being on Active Duty Military when I worked on one of my Graduate Degrees -- I can assure you that my position was different than the civilian academic that was my advisor at the time). As you can see -- I got the degree, but did have to deal with the difference of opinion on the topic --- and my career choice was one cause of friction.

Since you did not say why there was a dispute -- I can't help you there -- you need to work it through yourself. But disputes in the workplace (and doing a thesis -- you are in a workplace with an output) are normal, even in academia.

I do NOT suggest kissing rear end -- it does not work in the business world, and it is not acceptable in academia. Just be reasonable, not heated/emotional, and start dialogue once again -- and dialogue you need to start. This is something people do when working in daily life, so get used to it. It is a matter of trying to leave emotions behind and just talk about the work ahead of you with the goal of finishing the project within time limit 'x' -- so get to work!

Your thesis advisor (or director, whichever title he or she would prefer) isn't there to have you write the thesis they want, their purpose is to help guide you in writing a thesis which will be read and acknowledged by the review board - even if they disagree with the position(s) taken within your work.

If you and your advisor have had a falling-out, then I would have to ask myself if there is more to things than you're letting on. In any event, the only advisable course of action is to talk with your advisor and "agree to disagree" on your paper's position...as the purpose of the thesis is to showcase the results of your education at that particular university.
