The Emmy's were on last night and who else could care less? What's the point of all these celebrity awards shows, anyway? I mean, it's not like they do anything for society, so why are they getting awards anyway? Especially awards that are chosen by each other, making it a huge popularit contest.
Don't get me wrong, i do watch TV and movies and enjoy them immensely. However, we have soldiers dying every day overseas and all you hear about them is how horrible it is that American troops are in such and such country. Also, why aren't there awards shows for teachers, or police, or firefighters, or garbage collectors, or any other person who REALLY contributes to society ?

I totally agree last night when my daughter said,"Ma the awards are coming on". I was like YAY now change the channel.I was in my room watching Teen Wolf on the i channel.I think that watching them talk of the 1,000 dollar gowns and earrings and who looks good and who doesn't is a bunch of crap. They should be doing better things with their money like Cancer,Aids,MS and other research.I have Heart Failure at 30 and there is no cure but if I were rich I'd be doing more for the public then what they do.Sitting there watching them thank God when some of them are thanking God I'm rich.I could care less to see them compete in who's a better actor/actress.

I don't hate these award shows. I hate that celebrities can be so brain dead in their fashion choices and haven't the first clue when comes to posing for the cameras. About soldiers, sometimes you hear so much bad stuff about what's going on overseas that it's nice to have just a small 3 hour break to enjoy something so glamourous and over the top. Yes they can be boring but Conan O'Brien did a pretty good job at hosting. It's a life many of us would love. I know I would love to be up there on stage accepting award that means you get officially recognized and respected by your peers. The thing they do for society is they give us a world that we aren't in. It's not always a popularity contest. They have actual voters and the best shows and actors win. It also gives writers and directors their time to shine. Maybe you should put on an award show for all those people who go unrecognized like garbage collectors or maybe you could just make up an award and send to the police station with a thank you letter. Why do they always have to be the ones contributing to society and why don't you do your part as well.

1. I think that the networks use them as fillers, because they don't know what type of show to put on t.v. at that hour
" 7pm -12am." One could blame the Neilson rating system for this.
2. You're right I would rather see award shows for people, " teachers, police, firefighters, or any other person who REALLY contributes to society ?
3.These are used to have the general public appreciate acts of valor . There are some who receive the congressional metal of honor.
4.My answer to you for # 2. This is done locally and queitly by any governing body or any business or organization .

I fail to see the point of the award shows. They're not very intersting. But it's a good excuse to turn the TV off and do something else OR watch a movie instead of the regular programming.

Well, you must understand that every profession has its award ceremonies for the people "in the business". Now, the "business" of all those folks is to be on TV and get publicity. (The same reason they are all over the late-night talk shows - its their JOB.)
So, don't look at it as a general-purpose show meant for everyone, look at it as a conference of TV show people. That puts it in its place as something worthless for me to watch.

i agree. i don't care about them at all. the only time i watch award shows is on youtube if someone puts up a funny clip. the shows that i think should get awards hardly ever do. the whole thing is pretty pointless and often very boring.

I'm with you. I watch some TV, but never these shows (and that goes for the Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, too). It seems to be a huge waste of time and money.

They receive a lot of money for role playing, and then they get awards? What about all the doctors that save lives, psychiatrists that help personal break-throughs, etc... Where are their awards?

This country, economy, and morals are all in the wrong place.
Those shows ALWAYS take over the networks when there is a good movie or show on too!
