He said he chewed a cig filter right when he got pulled over and registered @ like .03 when he said he was much higher. Is he full of **it or is it posibble to beat a breathalizer that way, or anyway for that matter? (I'm not sure i even understand what he meant by using a cigarette filter.) Whether he meant chew it up & spit it out try to blow thru it? Urban legends welcome.
I know, my Sister needs a new group of friends, but I was just curious.

I have heard of people claiming to "puff" the machine by breathing in through their nose, pooching out their cheeks and expelling the air in their mouth really fast without really exhaling. One said he drank a lot of coffee before and another said she took a big rinsing swig of water immediately when stopped and before the officer got her out of the car.

I told them both (separate occassions) that I had seen them drunk and don't think they had the coordination to pull it off. Another friend said he just inhaled real big and barfed all over the breather.

I suspect that success in "beating the breathalyzer" is more a fluke of random failure and a valiant attempt to look sane and sober that gets rewarded by a pitying policeman.

Urban myth started because some people think a breathalyzer measures alcohol thats still in the mouth... by chewing a filter, the filter absorbs and fluids in the mouth...

But a breathalyzer actually measures the alcohol given off by the lungs when you exhale as this is coming directly from the bloodstream... so a filter shouldn't affect this measure...

impossible! the breathalyzer measures the BAC (blood alcohol content), so it being on your breath and chewing a cigarette filter means nothing. it measures the amount of alcohol on your blood system, no on your breath.

plus...he had to have done it at least 2 times (breathalyzer, i mean). it's done a minimum of 2 times, and the officer (99.5% of the time) tells the possible offender what they registered at.

my guess is that this guy is a bullshit*er. or he got pulled over but he didn't measure up and just wanted to sound cool because he got pulled over. because THAT'S real cool...
