If you are seeing white smoke from your tail pipe, you are burning oil. Oil can get in to the cylinder one of two ways, bad valve seat(s) or bad piston rings. You are not burning anti freeze as has been suggested, and it is highly unlikely you have a blown head gasket.
Blown head gaskets are a major repair, that in most cases causes the engine to need to be replaced, due to the mixing of antifreeze and oil together and then getting into the cylinder. Replacing valve seats is no minor repair either, but is much better and preferable than a blown head gasket.

Pure white smoke is an indication that water is getting into your engine block. Put your hand near the tail pipe and you will feel moister. This means you have a cracked block or a warped or cracked head or intake. If the smoke is a blueish color and stinks than i would say oil burning however you would also notice a change in the motor's sound.

Oil burns black. Antifreeze burns white. Gasoline that is not getting enough oxygen burns white also.
Check your radiator level. If it is low, then you are burning antifreeze. That is a result of a blown head gasket.
If not, then get a tune up.
