Like the title says, I'm an aspiring writer and I was wondering how to find an editor. I have tons of notebook paper with what I've written, and I'll probably transfer it to my computer one of these days. I would like to find someone, I'm guessing this is the job of an editor, who will give me a read and let me know if I should pursue something further with what I have written. Any ideas??

Look in the classified section at the back of magazines like WRITER'S DIGEST and you will find people that are willing to read and critique your manuscript for a fee, usually based on page count. If you are unsure of the saleability of your work, these people can help you to correct grammer, punctuation and other errors before you submit to an agent or editor. A sloppy manuscript will always get rejected no matter how good the story because it conveys a negative message to a publishers editor. Their time is valuable and they will feel if you can't take the time to polish your work BEFORE you send it in,then they won't get much cooperation from you when time comes to rewrite according to their suggestions. Writer's Market is the ultimate resource for aspiring as well as established writers and you will learn how to write a query and cover letter to pique an editors interest. You really need to polish that manuscript first, though.

There's a book out called the "Writer's Market", in it are tons of editors, publishers, etc. who are looking for good submissions. Depending on genre, of course, you might want to look at something online. Some people will put a page or two of their work in a blog to see what people think. Just some suggestions, hope this helps. :)

Go to Barnes and Noble or other major book store and pick up a copy of "The Writer's Market" it will tell you how to get into contact with editors and publishers.

Make sure you format all of your manuscripts in the appropriate manner. Typing them is a must.

how can you be an "aspiring" writer if you have tons of notebook paper everywhere? Sounds to me you are already a writer.

One way is to let other readers/writers read what you've written and give you some feedback. there are websites where you can post your work and let others critique it. One is www.authorspost.com

Consider hiring an English major or school teacher to edit your works. They probably won't mind doing it for some extra cash.

Then put your manuscripts to type and save, save, save.

Here's one option. Be clear about what you want and editor to do before you approach someone.

You can also look up Literary Marketplace which lists all editors and agents and what they are looking for.
