I have had the stomach ulcers and gall stones. For me, the stomach ulcers felt like there was a fire in my stomach .. and eating something or drinking something like water or milk would make it feel better. I understand that if eating helps it feel better that is a pretty good sign of an ulcer. When I had the gall stones I had a severe back ache. I would never have guessed it was gall stones. I went to the hospital and they told me it was "referred pain". I guess that means the problem site causes the pain to go elsewhere in reaction to whatever it's doing, like when you have a sore foot and walk with a limp and it makes your butt sore because you are walking funny.
As for length of time ... I had the stomach problems every day for a very long time (months/years) before I ever saw the doctor. She "scoped" my esophagus and stomach, and gave me some meds and the meds helped right away. The gall stones was just that one episode, in the middle of the night. Maybe there were other symptoms that I never associated with the gall bladder. Anyhow, I had the gall bladder removed.

The kidney stone I had hurt, I ran a fever, and was nauseated with it. I know the symptoms can be much worse. I had a small stone. I don't remember how long it lasted, and I was able to pass it with no intervention.
The gall stones were absolutly horrendous. The pain ran up the muscles in my back, and across my diaphragm. Sometimes it felt like I couldn't breath. I would just lay on my side until it passed. I would say the attacks lasted from 2 to 5 min. I was told to watch spicy foods and fatty foods. I had un ultarsound done of the gall bladder, and because of the frequency and severity of the pains, I had it removed. There are other tx. available and I would try them first, as removal of the gall bladder does cause some changes in the way you digest food and most people I know can get bouts of diarrhea like stools after eating certain foods because the fats are broken down differently.
I hope you find relief, my heart goes out to you.

Yes, I've had both stomach ulcers and kidney stones.
With stomach ulcer, it manifested by low blood count (anemia) caused by bleeding from ulcer.
Kidney stones cause sharp localized (flank area) pain and nausea
and a general feeling of horribleness.
Good luck with the MD.

I have Calcite kidney stones...these are usually kind that men get.
symptoms range depending also on your pain tolerance. lower back pain, blood in urine, frequent urge to urinate with very little urine production, vomiting, burning sensation when you urinate. If you have one or all of these symptoms get to doctor office or Hospital ER ASAP! This is nothing to lolly gag around about... I once did and stone got lodged and I had to have it cut out.....Exstreme Pain!! And I have a high pain tollerance!

I've had all three, and none of them feel good. They all bring fever and pain.
Just a note about kidney stones, they aren't always just calcium, they can be other minerals.

Not, me but my bro did. There's a NATURAL way to get rid of 'em - w/ out having to operate. Look to your health food store ask them about a product called "Super Phos" - it literally MELTS any stones we have (we all have them - it's just calcium built up) and you 'pee' (does urinate sound better ?) them out. You can actually see them in your toilet. It's great to do this sort of 'cleanse' - it doesn't hurt to try it, even if you find out it's not stones. Does this help??!!
