wrong. The U.S. is neither the largest in population or largest in size. China has the largest population @ about 1.5 billion, with India in second with about 1.1 billion. The largest by land used to be The Soviet Union. Now it is Russia, then China, then the U.S., then Canada. Russia=16,995,800 sq km, China =9,326,410 sq km, United States=9,161,920 sq km, Canada=9,093,510 sq km.

Russia is the world's largest country, almost double the size of either the United States or China. I believe the error you have fallen into is this: the United States is the world's richest country and from it you have drawn a different and incorrect conclusion. It may be called the gravitational pull of an associated fact.
