For example: "I'm going to Walmarts."
I've notice the same thing for Target, and virtually any other major store.
Some stores do have an S at the end, Dominick's, Walgreens, Papa John's Pizza etc. So I wonder if its some psychological need to standardize.

And yes, I forgot to mention it, but I do realize it might be people turning it into a possesive, like thinking of it as Walmart's Store.

I have never heard that. Maybe it's a local thing. I am curious now. Where do you live?
I live in Chicago, and I've never heard that or felt the urge to say anything like that. But I have friends from Atlanta who say "the onliest" when they want to say "the only", and they are both educated, so it's not their bad grammar. When I lived in OH, it drove me crazy that people said "where's my coat at?" or "have you ate".
I guess the added S must be a local thing.

I think because when you go to someone's house you say "I am going to Patrick's," and a lot of people aren't that well-spoken so it just transfers to businesses for some reason. Honestly, I don't know.

I've never heard anyone do that! If they do where you come from, it could be a lowbrow need to standardise. Or just that they don't care enough about labels to make the effort to be correct.

I don't know, an old friend of mine used to say Barnes and Nobles and I would always make fun of her. (all in good nature)

I would never say I was going to "Wal-marts". That doesn't sound right to me.
