Get the name of the company they give, and do a google search on it. If its a scam, you'll probably see hundreds of hits on complaints about the site. Do your research, that's the best way!

Before you click on the link to go to the page you received in your email, run your mouse over it and look on your status bar in the bottom left. If is it a weird page and not https://www.paypal.com or http://www.ebay.com or something like that, don't go to it...it's a scam. Also, if they ask for odd information (your user id, password, debit card pin number??), it's obviously a scam.
