For me it is women whos swear like troopers, the so called 'ladettes' who drink pints and are coarse. Discrete tattoos are ok bit the large ones on the arms of women are a big turn off I keep expecting to see hairier arms than mine. why do some pregnant women feel this need to display their bumps so graphically? Yes Tracey I can see how much you like being a 'muvver' at 16 but a large stomach over bottoms isn't the last thing in high fashion!

As always it amazes me how americans use words when they have no idea what they really mean and go about their way believing something for an entire lifetime without ever actually going to look to see if what they are saying is correct.

Com-mon ( kom'en) adj. 1. Belonging equally to, or shared alike by, two or more or all in question: Common objectives. 2. Pertaining to or belonging equally to an entire community, nation or culture. 3. of medocre or inferior quality, mean, a rough common fabric.

Chav's are not common really, even though they all look similar and sort of ban together, they are all HYSTERICAL especially in that they assume they actually look good! That isn't common, it is sensationalism at its verbose and repulsive, ignorant, finest! I love Chav's if for no other reason than they are just damn funny! Entertaining and diversely colorful, can't be common by definition. Chav's are found in all financial groups and in many different social classes. Madonna can be considered a chav, The Beckhams with all their loot are quite chavy and then you have your fake Burberry, bad weave big hoop earring chav's. They are all different even in being the same.

Common blends in and fades into its own distances... Like American wasps in the Hampton's all in white and beige wrapped in all the pretension they can carry all trying to keep up with and be one another. BORING! and as wonderful and unique, set apart and special as they actually believe they are they are actually quite common as a group.

I guess the designer labels that make BOTH these groups what they are, can actually be what is the COMMON thread between them? Maybe buying into the designer fad's IS common, fake or real?

I think a "common" person could be classed as generally those of the lower, working classes, who are generally uneducated beyond compulsory education, college (particularly if they take a GNVQ as they have a bad reputation) or an apprentice (i.e. not to university), speak in a regional accent other than the prestige accent (which in the UK is received pronunciation, or the Queen's English), and have little interest in politics (although they may read tabloid newspapers).

Ignorace makes a man a common one.
There is an average knowledge rate that common people have, and if exceeds that stage, then an individual isn't common.

I do not understand what a Chav, average or otherwise is.
Common means one whose personal habits are coarse.

Being 'common'. Like everyone else, doing what the majority do, thinking like they think (and not thinking for yourself), dressing like everybody else and basically being a 'sheep', would be my definition. Also read as 'shallow'

I would also say that it is mostly 'common' people that accuse others of this trait.
