His original concept name was "Dippy Dawg" in cartoon shorts created during the 1930s; then his name was given as "George Geef" and "G.G. Geef" in cartoon shorts during the 1950s (implying that "Goofy" was a nickname). Contemporary sources, including the Goof Troop television show and A Goofy Movie, now give the character's full name to be Goofy Goof. The Goof Troop pilot also refers to 'G. G. Goof' on a diploma, likely a reference to the original name. In other words, Disney probably didnt wanna follow a trend like there competition over at the Warner Brothers Studio (which every anthropomorphic in the series have a Animal last name). It's really unknown, but that's a good theory right. I hope that's a good enough answer for you, pimpin

Because "Goofy" and Dog are synonymous? I mean, Donald, in no way alludes to the fact that he would be a duck and neither does Mickey but Goofy... All dogs are goofy!

Mickey's initials are MM and Donald's are DD. Going by that trend if Goofy was to have the last name of Dog, his' name would have to be changed so that it would beging with a D.

Goofy was originally known as Dippy Dawg, first appearing in a Disney short, titled "Mickey's Revue", in 1932. So, I guess he's a Dog by the way of Deputy Dawg.

I don't think Goofy is really a dog. He's just... a random animal.

and maybe Goofy is like Madonna. He has no last name.

SHHH! If they hear you, they'll downgrade his status and put a leash on him, the way they did to Pluto!

(Honestly, the way Mickey acts like a dominator, putting Pluto on a leash and taking him for 'walks' is disgusting and speciesist.)
