Absolutely! We did all kinds of accents, even made up ones.
I grew up in Pennsylvania, which is in the North Eastern part of the USA. I'm sure we were totally politically incorrect as we attempted to do our: English, Asian, Mexican, Irish, Native American, German, Swedish, etc. accents.
Now, for the made up ones ... My one sister and I would do this one all the time: Stick your tongue between your lower set of teeth and your lower lip, leave it there and talk. Try it! We did this and pretended we were old women. We had fake names ... Martha and Mary, and even fake husbands. We would do this for hours on end. It drove my mother crazy!
We still do it (all of them) and I am 45 !!!

Not kids, any more than adults. I teach English in China, and the poor kids end up with half American, half British accents, due to the various teachers they have. It's quite comical. They'll say something like ahnserr. (Answer) The first syllable British, the second syllable, American. I suppose the British English teachers are always correcting their American accents to British. Poor kids. They're schizo by the time we're through with them.
I have to catch myself correcting their British accents since it IS the mother tongue.

I don't care what accents they use as long as they do play away from the computers and television! That ability to immerse yourself as a child in a make believe world where anything is possible is where we get our imagination. Children who don't role play are inclined to show less imagination and be less sociable.

my friends and i (american) used to put on english accents when we'd play dress up....like kings and queens!
oh, and of course we'd try french accents out too!
i've noticed other kids doing this and sometimes, when say certain things, i'll still put on an english accent!!!!

when little girls have tea parties sometimes they put on english accents. I mean I'm 24 now and I put on fake accents to screw with people from time to time. sometimes its English, sometimes it's southern. sometimes its German... it really depends what I'm talking about.

yes, and some people don't get that you are kidding around. i went into a store with my daughter, and she affected a british accent. the clerk looked dumbfounded by this, and said, " are you aware that your daughter is putting on an accent"? i said, in my best british accent, "oh no, tell me it isn't true"! i put on my best worried look and said to my daughter, " you are not putting on an accent, are you"? she said "why yes, mummy, yes i am". i said, "alrighty then". he just looked scared, as if we had both lost our marbles. to this day i'm left wondering why he didn't get the joke.
