Vengeance is exhausting and it never meets your hunger for justice. The wrong done to you implies a debt owed to you that nobody can repay. Vengeance won't take you wife back to your arms, it cannot bring your child back from his grave, it cannot heal the wound the rapist inflicted on your pre-teen daughter.
But how could one forgive a foreing nation for the devastation of own's country?
Still, forgiveness is the way out and into liberation.

Revenge is not usually satisfying. Ask the moms and dads of children who have been kidnapped or raped if they would feel better if they could go and kill the guy. They would probably say yes if you asked right after the event occurred but no 6 months later. It is a rage that festers but is never satisfied because you cannot undo the harm that has been done. This is what you are angry about so it is an empty rage. It cannot be squelched with one blow it has do to diminish with time. The sooner you forgive the crime and move on the faster you will heal and the better you will feel.

I figured out what goes around comes around so as a rule -- unless it is a joking type thing, revenge isn't necessary. I've FINALLY seen the "what goes around comes around" be true and as much as I hate to say it, it is giving me some sense of satisfaction. I almost feel guilty although I didn't bring it on. I'm having trouble in the forgiving arena but then again, this person has not and never will apologize for being as mean to me as he has (yes, an in-law - of course). So, until he does, he's just not a part of my life. So - no forgiveness but I don't think about it much anymore either. Let it go and move on. Oh and the "goes around" thing -- happened to HIM and his family so...................

There are some things you can never forgive or forget. The wounds go too deep and the scars last forever. If they completely destroyed your life. Revenge is the way to go. That saying revenge is mine says the Lord. Bullshit. I want it, and I have the right to do it. An eye for an eye.

That's a very broad question, for a very broad issue.
It would completely depend on the situation. All humans are capable of vengeance; the infraction will determine if they act or not. A Father may react differently to the loss of his Daughter to say a drunk driver and the loss of his Daughter to an rapist/ murderer.
