I am interpreting your question and would attack it from certain angle only.
This is used in conjunction with other filtration to eliminate mainly viruses from air and water.
Gama rays are used to some extent with solid food products. They were first used to kill insects eggs(cook it) so you do not get insects in the grain during grain storage,when the egg is not killed; it would hatch and start eating the grain, disease was not the problem.
