Our intestines are FULL of helpful, healthy bacteria. They help to digest our food, especially plant-based foods, and porduce Vitamin K for us, as the human body cannot make it (we need Vit. K for clotting blood). When we take antibiotics, it kills not only the infection-causing bacteria, but also kills a LOT of the helpful bacteria living in our intestines. This causes symptoms such as stomach upset, cramps, and diarrhea.
You can minimize this by eating a lot of yogurt, or asking your pharmacist for tablets that contain either Acidophilus or Lacto bacillus bacteria (the healthy kind).

yes it can because it disrupts the normal flora in the intestines. I would try to take acidophilus a few hours after taking the antibiotics to help add 'good bacteria' to the gut, to prevent diarrhea.
antibiotics can also cause yeast infections as well, but that's what you asked about. :)

Antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria. Good bacteria is used by the body to digest food and cleanse itself. When that becomes unbalanced it can cause diarrhea, yeast infections and several other problems until things are balanced again.
