what's a warm alternative to the usual quilt + quilt cover to put on the bed?

i don't like putting covers back on duvets after washing. so i want a blanket thats as warm as a duvet. is this possible. also, will a satin bedcover slide off the bed?

Get a water bed and turn up the heat !! or an electrical blanket.

Try using (on top of your usual sheets... consider flannel sheets) a thermal blanket (cotton, has little holes in it that trap warm air pockets, insulating your body heat into the covers) or even a handmade afghan... then on top of that, put a regular comforter.

The bed won't be as easy to make, but I agree... we have a king sized bed and that duvet cover is hideous to get back on!

By the way... my experience is that YES the satin stuff slides all over... it never went on my bed because I watched one slide all over my grandmother's for years :)

Hi..we changed our mattress a couple of months ago to a new contour foam one that moulds to your body shape. It is excellent and would recommed but one thing we did not know when we bought it was that it holds the temperature, result of which being we only need light bed covers on top of us. If you mattress is due for replacement might be a thought for you. Other alternative would be to have a summer weight duvet ie 4.5 tog rating instead of the usual all year tog of 10 or 12. yes satin bedcovers do slide off the bed, the only answer i can give u is woolen blankets or a hot water bottle

Try what the Americans call a comforter.
It's like a very lightweight quilt, but pretty.
May be difficult to wash though, you'd need a sheet underneath.
try a store like Debenhams.

What about a large chenille throw, lightweight but would definately keep you warm.
