Socialism, Not Capitalism
War, poverty, exploitation and oppression are products of the capitalist system, a system in which a minority ruling class profits from the labor of the majority. The alternative is socialism, a society based on workers collectively owning and controlling the wealth their labor creates.
We stand in the Marxist tradition, founded by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, and continued by V.I. Lenin, Rosa Luxemburg and Leon Trotsky.

Frankly I respect a number of the Bush bashers, even when I don't agree with them. The real difficulty comes when people begin believing in ideologies more than they do each other. I enjoy reading the articles which talk about how the secret meetings of the very rich are designed to keep most of us in the poor house. The major difficulty I have with these articles is that they stand in the way of getting a real education and putting it to work.
If you already believe something to be true, then it's pretty fruitless to search for data to support that belief; it's no different than any sort of ideology. To make a difference, one has to be willing to change oneself and learn enough to make a real difference not by spouting platitudes, but by working in the trenches. It makes a difference whether you think that all people should have housing or you have worked for HUD for a few years. It shouldn't change one's ideals, but a little reality break about how strange people really are helps.

Yeah, that's been oh so successful in the past century. To think I have been overlooking all those socialist paradises in the world for all these years!
This quote by Mark J. Perry summarizes things pretty well:
"Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery.
In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery.
A pyramid scheme is ultimately unsustainable because it is based on faulty principles. Likewise, collectivism is unsustainable in the long run because it is a flawed theory. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives."

Well, I get them from watching the President's lies, fraud, constitutional crimes, international crimes, misfeasance and malfeasance.
It's not difficult to understand we are trying to save our great experiment in democracy from evil political leadership.
Quickly, here's my favorite explanation for why libertarianism won't work: private, for profit fire departments.
Fire Department Dispatcher: "What's your emergency?"
YOU: My house is burning down and my kids are trapped upstairs!!!
FD: What is your bid, sir?
YOU: Bid? What are you talking about?
FD: We are a private, for profit fire department. There are other calls coming in and we are taking competing bids.
YOU: Well, I'm currently unemployed due to the President's mishandling of the.....HEY! We don't have time for this, my family needs to be saved!!!!!!
FD: We're sorry, sir, if your bid is zero you have been outbid by Mr. Gates. He needs his cat removed from a tree. Thank you for calling the Acme Fire Department. Have a good day.
