My mom said use tampons because they are cleaner and so I did. I put the tampon in my panties the way that you do pads and it was not any cleaner at all. It just rolled around in my panties when I walked and the blood just rolled off the plastic and didn't absorb. But some people swear by them. Why didn't they work for me? What is the secret?

For your mom to say use tampons and for you to not have a clue not a good combination. Sounds like a bogus question but just incase its not....maybe using tampons right now isnt a good idea. What kind of a mother do you have that she hasnt had a talk with you about periods? Use pads for now...do your research and move onto tampons at another time. If this is a bogus question stop wasting peoples time....use this system seriously.....

pads are for the inside of your panties. they absorb the blood that leaks out.
tampons are actually inserted into the vagina. you will have to put the plastic part up inside you and then push up the cotton part, leaving the little string hanging out so when it is time to change it, you can pull it out.
but you can't leave them in too long or you could get a sickness called Toxic Shock Syndrome.
You absolutely cannot sleep with one in. use a pad at night.
you probably need to start out with pads and not use the tampons. however, my daughter prefers the tampons to pads.
you'll just have to try and see what you like.

Yeah, people are so dumb, aren't they, Clueless Clara? They think tampons are better. But they just roll around in the panties and nothing is absorbed. I don't know what's wrong with people nowadays. We're soooo much smarter than them!

pads are placed on your panties. the tampon is to be inserted in your body without the plastic, of course. there are usually directions in the tampon box to help you insert it correctly. i always used pads, because they were easier and the way they make them today, where they stick to your panties is much better. i only used tampons when i went swimming.

You don't put it in your underwear like a maxipad. For tampons you have to insert in into the vagina. For this reason many women prefer maxi pads. Visit this link for diagrams on how to do so or read the instructions that came with the tampon:

i know its going to seem stupid that a guy is answering this but i live around girls ALL THE TIME i have a big family. ..you need to place tampon inside you...leave that string out though so you can pull it back out later. BE CAREFUL though...dont leave it in too long. Good Luck

you did not put it on correctly!! read the instructions on the box. that tells you how to put it on. tampons are way different then pads. they are more cleaner then pads. its because you didn't put it on right.
