Okay, I know you're supposed to unplug computers during storms, but if I have a laptop, is it okay to unplug it and still use it on the battery? (I live on a wireless college campus, so I don't have the ability to unplug the wireless connection...)

I think as long as nothing is connected to the computer you should be fine. Only time you have to worry is if the strikes strike wherever the college has the internet thing for wireless. =)

I would think as long as it's not connected to the electrical system that you should be fine. It's lightening that can come through the electrical outlet that will fry your computer - I speak from experience, as I had a strike fry my computer, tv, vcr and playstation!

That should be fine...the reason you should unplug it is so that it doesn't get a surge of electricity if lightning strikes and knocks out power. You should be fine using it on battery.

Ofcourse unless you are outside in a storm. Than the lightning will hit the laptop and youll explode. Inside it is OK!

What occurs in case you move the bar to a distinct outlet? If it keeps ringing, replace the bar. If not, replace the outlet (call an electrician). BTW, you ought to replace your powerbars each few years besides. each and anytime there's a minor surge, their means to guard you receives eaten away. And once you may be faraway from domicile at a time you recognize that there are likely to be thunderstorms, evaluate unplugging the bar from the socket.

I live in Germany where there are thunderstorms damn near daily, there is no need to turn off your computer. That would be completely unrealistic. Work would never get done!

i would say that you are ok.
just don't connect to a phone line for any reason. I fried my modem during a storm, just as i was trying to safely shut down, we got a crack of lightening....and then came the horrible smell.
