All previous answers are good advice. I would like to suggest that you buy CD/DVD burner, an ordinary CD burner will only do music or data, if you ever want to burn movies you'll need a DVD burner or one that does both. Software wise i find that NERO is the best around, i have tried all the various burning softwares on offer and prefer NERO everytime.

you can get a cheap one on eBay for about 6-8 GBP including postage. You might also want some burning software. Exact Audio Copy is a good start - you should download the version that includes CDRDAO. If you want to make life easy for yourself, you can get a genuine copy of Nero (OEM - the version that normally ships with a CD drive) for about 3GBP on eBay - watch out for the scammers though.
