I am an Indian student living in LIverpool for 3 years. May be I can share why I think it is and deserves to be famous:
1)People: Scousers with funny accent, simple ways, and good heart. All the accouns of racial/other incidents we had have been from non-scousers, spposedly educated people.
2)The Beatles: They were born and brought up here. All their music reflect all the moods of the city- from Strawberry fields, Yellow Submarine to Penny Lane. There are very few such artisans who can portray their native place with their art.
3)Football: Liverpool Footbal Club: 5 times European Champs and arguably one of the top 3 clubs in England.
4) Great Architecture; Two great architectual wonders. Catholic cathedral is unique in design , a must see. Anglical cathedral is only modern cathedral built with ancient design. If you see it you'ld presume its hundreds of years old.
5)Universities: Three universities, about 50-60,000 students every student season.
6)Mersey tunnel: Digged about 100 years ago to make aunderwater tunnel to join liverpool with birkenhead. Makes me wonder every time I go across the Mersey!

HOpe I have done justice to the city!

The Liverpool Football team of the 60's and 70's certainly helped them. The Beatles put them on the map too.

Important port. Slave trade. The liver Birds. Ferry 'cross the Mairsey. The Mairsey tunnel. If you want a cathedral we've got one to spare.
O.K. - Mairsey Beat, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes - oh - and the Beatles. Liverpool Inny - educated George Harrison and Paul McCartney. Mairsey mud and Sefton Pairk Slush. A great city, with a lot to offer. Try it.
