Hunny, Even if books against technology are repressed by the many vested interests of economics, science and money, things are changing, as the menace of robotics grows faster, jumping from Hollywood to reality. Money and the machines money reproduces, will substitute all human workers, converting man into an obsolete being who will become extinct. The biggest danger of TV and video violence is not what they do to our children, that become violent, but what they will teach to machines. The weak point in Matrix is the fact that machines will not need humans for energy purposes. They will use electric plants, and solar energy. Instead they will exterminate us. This is unfortunately becoming our reality What is wrong about living to work and consume? Merely the fact that those two behaviors are 'slavish' behaviors of man to machine, as many intellectuals have explained in the XX century. Why? Since we are humans, but we do not spend our lives reproducing human beings, [sex, love, family life] and consuming human goods that satisfy our natural wantings [education, health-care, food, tourism, etc.]. Instead we spend our lives reproducing and consuming=testing =evolving machines - other species. There is no natural justification to that, since in fact any human being will tell you he prefers to have sex, love, family life, travel, read books, eat well and be healthy, than working, testing and reproducing machines. Why we do that? Obviously because we are not free to choose the society in which we want to live. Others choose that society for us. Who? Those organizations whose aim in life is to reproduce and evolve machines... the tasks we perform for them. Do not believe in chaos. Things happen because someone plans them. You do not spend hours on a mobile phone that will give you cancer because you are stupid. Someone has convinced you to do that. Germans did not go to war singing fascists songs because Germans were stupid. Someone did convince them to do that. You are manipulated as the slaves of Matrix are, in a more intelligent manner, in many subtle ways. Brutal manipulation is dull. The way Stalin or Hitler manipulated their people was evident, and yet those people never rebelled. The way our society or the brain of Matrix manipulates its 'slaves' is more subtle, so intelligent, that we hardly realize. We live in a dream 'the American dream', which is however false. We rather do not awake to the nightmare behind the dream: a world in which we no longer behave as human beings, and do what human beings are designed to do... but instead we do what company-mothers of machines want us to do: consume and work, reproducing and evolving their offspring of products... Think about it. All what the system tells you to do is to consume and work, to evolve and reproduce machines. This is not by chance. This is because there are on Earth certain organizations whose aim is to evolve and reproduce machines, two functions which are biological - as your aim in life is to 'grow and multiply', to have a family and ensure his survival. Those biological mothers of machines have an abstract name: The Company. We will add in this book their biological function and call them Company-mothers. We work for company mothers, and we do what company-mothers, want to do naturally, "brain-washed" by Matrix: to reproduce and take care of their offspring of machines; instead of spending our time taking care of our family. Wouldn't you prefer to have the freedom of living in peace with your family surrounded by natural human goods, that all want to see reproduced from health care to peace, to nature, to good food? Yet you live in a world in which you take care of the offspring of companies, and you live surrounded by their machines, cars, computers, TVs, radios, choppers, weapons..

WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

OK, firstly, there are so many better movies to have come out of Hollywood, especailly considering the seccond rate status of the leading man. Dont get me wrong it was an incredible movie.

The matrix, as I see it, is a metaphore for a budhist/hindu concept. This being, we are trapped in a game, the game represents all our suffering and all that we desire. But we cannot escape this game on our own, this is because if we do, we are trying to do it from inside the game and therefore still placeing value in it. It is only be accepting that we are powerless to do anyting about it and humbleing ourselves to a higher power that we can do this - Morphious and the red pill.

Once out of the game we can view it from the outside, observe it, and therefore understand it better in order to play it better (not how much better he is when he re enters the matrix) Then there are the Lama's, these are people who after attaining enlightenment, decide to be reincarnated in order to teach others, to take more people out of the matrix.

Now here is another thoery that is going to really screw with your head. Chances are you are not real.

Reason being, it is thought that it is possible to build a computer that can take a snapshot of a planet and from its imediate state simulate a reverse in its history so that you can have a real look at the past and settle a few arguements. Now if it were to be that one of these computers were created, the simulations of the people in the mind of the computer would not know any different, they would not know that they were simulations nor would it be possible for them to know, unless the original that they were coppies of knew (in which case the original you are a copy of was paranoid). Here is the screwey bit. If one of these computers was ever built, it is very possilbe that two or more will also be built. Therefore the chances are that you are not infact in the original but a copy.

Fun eh!!

The movie was quite thoughtful and thought-provoking (asides from the special effects). However, it all comes down to one thing: the "what if" possibility. The basis of the movie is a blend of philosophy, mythology, religious believes (mainly taoism and buddism), science fiction, human consciousness, and perception.
"The Matrix" stimulates thought of day to day perception of things; how we discern from facade and reality. Using the "what if" possibilities, we are encourage to think beyond our often mundane, and monotonous lives. Posing the question to ourselves, "Is there more to this life than what it seems?" Quite possibly forcing us to question our lives further and stimulating in-depth existential thinking. "Why are we here? What is our purpose here? How did we get here?...etc"
The Wachowski brothers elaborated on this and created a "mind-blowing" story, which drew endless possibilities, beyond imaginable boundries.
From the existential thinking, they elaborated on the perception of reality and how we co-depend on this, thus even causing more thinking beyond facades and material items. As in the movie, those facades, idea, and material items are what binds us to the "Matrix" (here), dampening our perception. Like Morpheus stated: "the Matrix is the world pulled over our eyes." It is such things like material value, and false egos that narrows are mind, and blinds our perception, keeping us bound to this world and the society that dictates it. By deeming those material items and egos as trivial, and meerly a distraction, which binds us; to discard all of them will set us free (an buddist philosphy.)
A good point of this in the first movie is when Cypher betrays them, asking to be restore into the Matrix and a false world created for him, one of fame and fortune. Cypher chooses this, because he does not want to experience the reality of things (war with machines, people=batteries thing) in essences, he wants to become oblivious to this once again. Creating the idea that our thoughts our not of our own, but something we're taught and follow. (just like a herd of sheep to their shepard).
The Matrix, asides being an entertaining movie, opens our minds to think about possibilities pertaining more to our lives and existence. (that's why you've asked this question)

The possibilities are endless, only limitted to our minds. Althought the subject of existential thinking can be quite convoluted, and more questions may arise, it ultamately comes down to what you believe and what you feel is belivable.

Ultamately the choice is yours.....

So what will it be?
Red M&M, or Blue M&M? (brown isn't an option... or is it?)

It's a great movie & an interesting concept, however a little too far fetched to be true. I believe in the creation so I don't believe anything like that could ever really happen...being taken over by machines. Although, many jobs are being taken over by computers....hm.

No not at all.
Because the nerve cells of the brain can't be modified. This is because brain is made up of nereve cells which are interconnected.
In the movie, a thing or whatever is DIRECTLY inserted into the brain, this cannot happen if you wait for technology to advance for more than 3000 years......or more!

Its a movie for entertainment purposes, no truth to that at all. That kinda stuff was extremely off the grid. It was however a great movie, and has become a cult movie. People will be watching that movie for many years to come.

Well why do you think humans are scared to giving too much thought to AI? It's one of their fears that robots would become the dominant species, maybe before looking at the techno images look at perhaps other things like mind control for the masses can be applied to today's world.

well actually the movie is kind of based on ancient Hindu scriptures and mythology,as accepted by the Director....hope everyone knows the two matrix and india's connection...the girl in 3rd part and the song at the end of 3rd part during credits roll.

India's ancient scriptures term the world as "Mayajaal"...and basically it means there is no world....everything is maya (crudely meaning magic)

if you look from perspective of science, the smallest particle can be termed as electron and it has been shown that electron behaves both as particle and wave...i.e. energy.....thus it means that everything around us actually is just a manifestation of energy...

a common example would be sand....if you look closer at sand you can separate each particle from other when you pick it up in your hands.....but if you look it from a distance everything looks combined....looks one peice.....

hope u get the point!!!!
