In my warped mind......lol
The way advertisements mislead me is by showing something that looks totally fantastic and then you see the "real" thing and you are disappointed.
or like when food commercials come on and your looking at the food thinking damn that looks good but it is either one of two things.

You go and find that food and it looks nothing like the commercial or you have had that food and you KNOW it looks nothing like the way it was advertised.

Just once I would like to go out and buy a food dish and it look just as good in real life as it does on the commercial.
Like burgers.....they are never as good as they look in an advertisement.

Advertisement misleads the consumers depicting the qualities it has not got or by giving false promises.

Take for the example of any detergent powder / soaps. I have tried every one of them, but the clothes will be not white, as they promise. Is it not misleading?

It is we who are fools and purchase the commodities on their promises.

It is against the law to out and out lie in an ad. But you can spin the truth, presenting only those facts that put your product in a favorable light and ignoring facts that are unfavorable. In that contest you can call some ads a lie of omission.
BTW, advertising aren't the only people to do this. Politicians have turned into an art form.

They try to make you feel like you will be transformed into having the life that you see & presumably want by buying their products...No product does this. Advertisements can sometimes be entertaining, but they are always selling something. Ads are often played out to base instincts, but even the most high brow are appealing to people's sense of identity. History and other external effects are always absent...These are only a few.

I will tell you a story.

A young boy was there, who always takes decision on the basis of advertisements (style of ads.). One when he was travelling on a mo-bike which he was selected through an ad. wearing designer series advertised dress met with an accident and died.

After death he was taken to the gateway of heaven and hell. St.Peter asked him to select either of them as he was so young and has not done any much sins. He told without seeing an ad on the heaven and hell, he cannot take a decision. Hell was already having an ad. and the promoters shown the film to him It was wonderful with full of colours, models, music and graphics. The heaven people just managed a dull advertisement on a block board, without any colour and with dull appearance.

The boy decided to join hell. When he entered there, nothing in the ad. he has seen, but only boiling hot and inclement situation. He asked St. Peter, how it can happen when the ad. tells otherwise. Then St. Peter told, boy it is only an ad. on hell not the reality.

it's obvious that all advertisements may mislead consumers because all of them show only the good side of the product they are advertising. naturally, they don't show the bad side of the product because of their goal to gain customers. in this regard, we should be wise enough to know which product is really good for us. the best product is one which is affordable and of good quality. it will not harn to try new products for the sake of comparing the same products with different brands.

They are just bothered to sell the product only. Jo dikhta hai woh kuch aur hai aur jab bikta hai woh to ekdum alag hi hota hai. This I have experienced many times.
