I wondered that at the time, some people here are saying they didnt sing because "they weren't all french" - thats not entirely fair - most of them were born in France and even if their parents weren't that shouldn't stop them for eg. Zidane was (parents Algerian and didn't sing), Barthez was (spanish descent and didn't sing) but Thierry Henry who was also born in France like ZZ and Barthez DID sing (his parents from Antilles) and Lillian Thuram was born in France too and DID sing (african parents).
Other "French" players like Ribery are seen as pure french on the basis that they are white but he didn't sing either! So I guess its down to individual choice, some players regardless to their nationality and ancestory choose not to sing the national anthem because they like to mentally focus on the match ahead and/or have their own personal reasons. Gary Neville & Paul Scholes are and were England internationals for years and NEVER sang the national anthem and not much fuss was made of it but had that been a black player it would be more noticed and discussed.

I think it is a personal choice- whether or not to sing the national anthem. There were a lot of countries who didnt sing their national anthem. U know big match, high stakes, lot of pressure, all the hopes of ur country pinned on u etc maybe they just didnt feel like singing.

Perhaps because it contains the (French) words: (Our enemies will ) "murder your sons and friends" (egorger vos fils et vos compagnons) and that's not the right sentiment for a game that's basically friendly. Or should be. Mind you, Zizou received much worse than that from the Italian he butted into, they say. And got sent off by the ref! All's fair in love and football nowadays it seems. So the French team might want to sing it next time out, especially if it's against the Italians again. .

Look, some of them did sing, and just because some didn't-that's okay, because some people don't like singing, that's all.
