War does not make money for the country. The US is presently throwing billions of tax payers money into the war and the people are getting nothing in return except a massive debt that will have to be paid back. However rich friends of those in power that own defense companies and other companies tasked with rebuilding Iraq will stand to make a fortune as they are awarded lucrative government contracts. They will often repay the government by offering senior politicians cushy highly paid 'consultant' roles long after they have been booted out of office. These people will have blood on their hands and millions of dollars in their pockets.

War use to make money in this country and any other by having the majority of manufacturing make weapons and ammunition for the war but seeing as we're not in a war, that isn't working. Do some research and look back to WWII, you will find that almost all manufacturing was devoted to producing products for the war effort. This put almost all that wanted to work employed and then some. It was also the beginning of woman working outside the home. All the men were off to war so the wives and woman had to work to keep producing supplies. Todays modern skirmishes, not wars do not require the amount of supplies that a full scale war does so its not helping our economy directly. However, police actions do bring new technology to the military and public which indirectly benefits the economy in new consumer products and advances in science.

War while horrible does good things for a country.
1. War stimulates a country's economy. It does this buy purchasing war materials and supplies. Guns, Bullets, Tanks, Vehicles, Aircraft's, Uniforms, Boots, Food, etc...
This in turn causes these industries to hire additional workers (Lowering the unemployment rate) These workers in turn will spend their money on taxes (goes back to the Government to purchase additional war material) and they will spend their money for Vehicles, Homes, Food, Movies, etc... which in turn creates additional jobs for other workers.
This doesn't just help the US it will help all of the US trade partners. Buy having more money the US worker will buy things that he/she needs. These items will be either US manufactured or imported items. Helping other nations as well. Just remember the laws of economics. Supply vs demand. The only way there will be a demand is if the consumer has the discretionary spending power. The only way the consumer will have the discretionary spending power is if they have a job. War will ensure that they have a job.

Well, you have companies with defense contracts. That in the event of a war they get government contracts for planes, weapons, etc. And, those contracts are worth billions of dollars.
Other than that - for a country as a whole it does damage. It divides the people (look at the US today) and reaks havoc on the economy. Investors are unsure - as are the American people - about what tomorrow holds. A feeling that anything could happen.
Sure a few of the upercrest get cash in their pockets, but the average Joe just gets a kick in the pants.

war is two fold...
A. you have to destroy things
B. then you have to go back in and fix things
to destroy things you need guns, tanks, bullets, bombs, planes, ships, missiles, computers, shelter, food, water (for the troops) and many, many, many more supplies... but these things don't appear out of the air, they have to be made, shipped distributed and put into place... with many employees and several managers at each step along the way... and companies get contracts to produce these things (granted some of these things are made during peace time, but no where near the numbers)
then once you destroy a country, you have to rebuild it (a lesson from WWI)... like we're doing in Iraq... building and fixing schools, electricity, water, government buildings, police and much, much, much more... so you need to house people to build those things and you need food, water and shelter for people doing those things... and companies get contracts and people get jobs to make them
where does the government get the money to pay the contracts... much of it we have borrowed so far... note the debt that has increased a tremendous amount since the wars... much faster than before the wars...

Where did you get your information? War has no good side and is not for profit. if anything it does so much harm it takes many years to recover.
What many do not know or understand here in the US we always improve things for other countries while it's own people suffer. Many think war is bad for them when the US goes to war with them but never see it for what it is.
The US has spent hundrends of millions of dollars repairing countries we bomb making them better than they ever were before we help out the people and feed them and make their lives better than they ever had it before. and it doesnt stop ever. we feed billions of people around the world and the thing is the US government will take food out of our mouths to do this for other countries and we are told it is for the better.
So americans suffer to make others lives better because every government fund to help our own poor and hungry people are cut so they can send it abroad and what thanks do we get? none we are the most helpful country on the planet and the most hated but yet everyone want to live here.

War makes money for countries who on one hand, are not militarily involved, & on the other hand, sellers of military hardware.
For the countries involved, war makes money only for the politicians & the firms who get business contracts in the aftermath. In the case of the US, certain construction firms & their political sponsors are the only ones who gain.

The US Gov, spends billions of dollars on bombs and tanks which are made in the US by American Workers.
It gives those people jobs. 30-40% of that money goes straight back to the gov in Taxes. the people have money and spend it elsewhere, which gives more jobs, etc. etc. It helps with unemployment and by spending billions money on the US manufacturing , it kick starts the economy

It doesn't. It costs billions of dollars to run a war these days. It is a serious drain on the economic resources of any country, even ours.
