It all seemed promising in the mid 90s with Britpop- the revival of the 60s- but, after a couple of good dance tunes, everyone jumped on the bandwagon and music videos are more like some tawdry edition of the Daily Star now. Why isn't the country that produced acts like The Beatles and The Smiths ashamed?

Mostly the pop scene in the UK is rubbish just now. The days are gone on which the Beatles, Freddy and Dreamers, long John Baldry to name but a few, existed. Please come back Freddy Mecury all is forgiven.

That is true of the pop scene unfortunately, but I think you'll find that no matter how much undeserved interest is bestowed upon it by the music industry, pop is not the most popular genre amongst the british public.
Personally I never listen to pop anymore. British rock is really coming into its own now; Kaiser Chiefs and Franz Ferdinand are just two examples, try checking out the line up for the reading festival!
