how do you determine the sex of a chicken when it is not hatched yet?

You cant, thats why many people end up with cockerels they dont want or need. We bought a silkie, we didn't know what the sex was until it grew up.....its a cockerel :(

ah mate you can't till it is born and even then it needs a trained eye hens have like a little lump on the inside of the legs above the ankles cocks at the back higher up the only 100% way is to wait till you here the cock a doodle doo!!! good luck

you cant without x-rays and stuff...even with the x-rays, i think it is still pretty impossible! dont hold me to that though...
