GCSE 'basic' passes run from A* down the G. D-G are basically to say they did the course- they won't be counted when applying for college courses or university in the future. All the A*-Cs your son has add up to a quantity which will allow him to do most college courses - he has 7 A*-Cs and a GNVQ, and most courses aske for 5-6 GCSE A*-Cs, so he is well within the range.
A GNVQ pass is worth 3 GCSEs and will 'boost' his overall total, but he would need a merit if he wanted to do ICT in college.
Unless he had his heart set on English Lit at A level, he should just let that lie and go for whatever else he wishes to do. It looks like he's better at things like science and maths anyway.
He should be pleased with this set or results, as they leave him with a wide choice of college/6th form options.

What exactly don't you understand. He did pretty well by the looks of it. The double BB in Science means he has two GCSEs in the same subject, and he did the equivalent of two subjects' work. His ICT GNVQ Pass is the bottom grade out of Distinction, Merit and Pass (in that order) as they are not graded alphabetically, but like it says it's still a pass and he evidently worked hard as his grades are great!!!!!!

These are quite good results. He got BB in Science because he did dual award science, which means he studied three subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and covered the course that gives you 2 passes. If he wants to continue to A level he might have a problem as many schools ask for a B in the subjects he wants to do and he might find A level science hard having only done dual award science. Talk to some one about his results, either at school or a 6 th form college or college.

A, B and C grades are passes.......D and E fails. So he's failed english lit. The GNVQ pass .....is a pass.
Not a bad crop of results. You should be pleased with him. 7 out of 8 passes and the GNVQ speaks for itself.

I don't know what a gcse is. Someone must have administered this test, so that would be who you need to talk with.
