i've been downloading music and films using bearshare, it seems a bit too good to be true that you can get all these things free - is it safe??

Absolutely not! One day soon you will realize this! p2p sites dont provide the songs, they come from other users PCs! How many of them are infected? Take a guess! Most of the people who ARE infected probably dont even realize it!

There can be viruses (scan downloaded files)... The RIAA is occasionally filing law suits against people on P2P networks. I believe only those who share (upload) copywritten files so far... It could happen to you. Don't do it without accepting the risk.

I believe BearShare and LimeWire use the same network. Shareaza will hook you up to it's own network, the BearShare / LimeWire network, and the eMule / eDonkey network all at the same time. Program will crash some routers though and even some cable / DSL modems that aren't set exactly right.

I use it all the time, just realize some people rename their files, so what you get is not what you wanted. But for music it has always work for me. make sure you go to the bearshare download file, and scan for viruses before playing songs or movies.

Best to avoid free sites, there's a high chance you'll pick up a virus. Try Iomoio, I've been using them for 3 years now and never got a virus. Songs are all in high quality bit rate so sound a lot better than the stuff you rip from Youtube. Register with the link below and get 2 free downloads to try them out.

Yes, its safe to use any p2p programs (inclusive bearshare). But we wise enough to sort out which files are corrupted or junk or infected which you will learn over a period of time with hands on experience.

I dont think your hard drive will crash by using similar types of programs.

you say your getting them free, technically I think you are recieving stolen goods in terms of copyright and redistribution, however some stuff maybe copyright free, and bearshare does work, you will get some viruses downloaded with some things, but bearshare will usually warn you if its unsafe, failing that if you have good anti virus software, that should sort it out.

A friend of mine used it.

It appeared safe for a while, then Windows Security Center started telling him he had spyware on his pc.

He had more than 100 kinds of spyware when it was cleaned.
