Oestrogen is the primary sex hormone in women. Both men and women have them but is significantly more in women. They promote the sex characteristics of women, including development of breasts, the menstrual cycle including ovulation so as to allow pregnancy in women. Lack of oestrogen in the older women near menopause causes the symptoms including hot flushes, vaginal dryness, irritability or is also thought to cause the bone to be more brittle. However, in a recent trial undertaken by Womens Health Initiative showed that oestrogen replacement caused increased risk of stroke when used over a number of years in menopausal women. The main medicine containing oestrogen including oral contraceptives as well as hormone replacement therapies or medicines. However, in its natural form it is not absorbed through food intake, so cannot be replaced in this way. However, phytoestrogens such as isoflavones are available from plants such as soy have effects similar to oestrogens but much weaker. Some breads contain phytoestrogen and these may be purchased from supermarkets.

You can get estrogen or progestrone cream in the health food stores. And as far as foods, you could try some soy foods, tofu, that sort of thing, enjoy!!! They are all very good.
