I tried photo yahoo!, flickr, zoto recently. They are all cool on-line photo album(Poor MSN/Live, no such shing feature); and all of them provide client-side photo-uploading-program. In low-bandwidth environment, it is obvious that programs upload photo much faster than in web page.

I am wandering what is the magic of such program to enhance uploading speed.

Generally, when uploading a file, the server and the client communicates by opening temporary IP port other than port 80 which uses HTTP.

Uploading is the same as downloading. The only difference is that when uploading, you are sending data.. and since you are a client, not a server, uploading is slower..

in some cases uploading can be faster depending on the ISP you're in. If you want faster uploads, just contact your isp and increase your upload speed link.
