Sudden, unexplained drowsiness can be a sign of sleep apnea, and although you think you are sleeping at night, you may not be due to apnea.

There is also an illness called narcolepsy wherein you fall asleep suddenly, but it is a pretty rare condition

The most common reason for daytime drowsiness is related to medicines. Allergy pills are apt to make you drowsy, as are cold tablets and some cough medicines.

If you are getting 6-8 hrs sleep a night and not taking any prescribed medication for anything that has drowsiness as a side effect then no it is not normal and sounds like narcolepsy when you fall to sleep suddenly with no warning. I would recommend that you book an appointment with your gp and explain your symptoms to them as this could be extremely dangerous if you are driving or operating any sort of machinery.

See a doctor. You could be anemic, your blood sugar could be out of whack, you could be on the verge of an epileptic attack, so many different things. You need to see a doc.

lots of people do experience the same thing you have so don't you worry about this. just spend a nite in the hospital, the doctor will hook you up with some kinda breathing machine when you're sleeping. they will find out what's wrong with you.
