I had IE installed but for what ever reason it would crash / reboot my computer at random. I updated the drivers but nothing helped. Then I downloaded Firefox and Opera and FF was working fine until something messed up my ConfigSys, when I started up the computer I saw something on the screen about new 'something' being installed for the monitor. After that when I would open Firefox it would reboot the computer. I don't have a virus, I haven't downloaded anything and there are no new programs on the computer. I need to have a back up browser in case something happens to Opera [and I don't really care for it all that much]. I removed FF and reinstalled it and when I went to open it, it did the same thing - rebooted my computer. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

To the other person that said try Slim Browser. Slim Browser is IE, there is no difference it just serves as a shell for IE.

With your PC rebooting at random, it really does sound like you have a Virus. Even if you think you don't have a virus you still might have one. It could be spyware, but it sounds more like a virus or worm.

To make sure its not spyware, try the following:
1. Do not download anti-spyware programs blindly, they might be spyware themselves. Check this list to no which programs to trust:

2. Download the following (if you don’t have them already, if you do have them make sure they are the latest versions) and then UPDATE them. After they are updated, restart your PC while tapping the “F8” key – this will start your PC in “safe mode”. When your computer is in safe mode scan with all these programs and then trash what ever they find, they may take a while to scan, maybe over an hour for Ewido.

If none of this works, you might have to reinstall windows as mentioned by someone else. Use your restore CD that came with your computer to do this. I can't tell you the directions how to do this here because I wrote too much already. Just post the question how to reinstall windows in another question.

If you don't have the restore CD, then you can always do what I did and completely use a different operating system. Personally I use the FREE Linux distribution "Ubuntu". Google it to find out more info.
