In September 11, 2001, two commercial airplanes commandeered by terrorist crashed and destroyed the World Trade Center in New York. Is this the first time that an airplane crashed into a skyscraper in New York?

In the fifties a plane hit a sky scraper in New york and all passengers, except for one little boy, were killed. Unfortunately the boy died shortly thereafter.

The first such disaster happened during the last weeks of WW II. Low level flying in dense fog was the cause. The plane was not exactly small. It was a medium bomber. The crew and several office workers were killed. No bombs were aboard.

1) This is the first time such a thing was done on purpose.
2) Despite chatter otherwise, WW2 bombers were small compared to the jetliners today and carried less fuel.
3) Because the WW2 pilot was lost, he was flying at a slower speed.
4) But yes, old building were often "overbuilt" because the engineering science was not as advanced.

There was a B-something military bomber that got lost in fog or a storm and flew into the Empire State Building shortly after it was built. This event prompted the architect who designed the WTC to make a statement about the strength of the steel skeleton of the WTC along the lines that "...even if a plane flew into it, it would still stand" or something like that.

No one crashed into the Empire state building once in the 40's or 50's i think. It was a small plane. Also one crashed into the Waldorf hotel.

DURING WORLD WAR 2 A BOMBER FLEW INTO EMPIRE STATE BUILDING MINOR DAMAGE BECAUSE IT HAD UTILIZED BOX CONTRUCTION VS.. STICK FRAMING LIKE WORLD TRADE CENTER STILL MAKES ME F@$IN MAD WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT !!!
