I love some of the other answers, especially the one that says scrub all your entrance ways, as if they use the doors and windows. First of all I am assuming that you are talking about the smaller red roach and not the bigger black roach or water bug. The larger ones are ground nesting bugs and tend to migrate to moisture and follow pipes and drain lines. They are hard to keep out since they nest outside and roam in and out. Most sprays will kill them but won't keep them out. The smaller red ones come from filth and will nest just about anywhere. They like dark , quiet places like under cabinets, in walls and under or in appliances. I have found that a powdered roach killer works best. It comes in plastic bottles that you squeeze and the very fine powder comes out the pointed tip. You can use it under and around appliance, under cabinet ect. There is usually a gap where the drain comes in under the sink or drill a small hole to spray it in the bottom of the cabinet. This killer is tracked by the bugs back to the nests and kills the hatch lings and nests, so even if they are coming from your neighbors it will be carried back. This stuff is toxic so you need to clean up any over spray and keep children away. If Home Depot and alike do not have it in your area try looking for a janitorial supply or exterminator supply store. They can sell you more powerful agents not requiring a license.

Roaches are like ants, once they lay down a trail, there is no stopping them. My suggestions are based on experience but they aren't the nicest. First, scub all the entrance ways to your apartment with something that has bleach or a strong lemon scent to it. This will break the trail that they have down. Second. Red pepper powder mixed with ground garlic [not garlic salt] should be put around all the doors and windows. Leave this there for about a week and it should deter even the most pesky of roaches from coming back.
You can also contact the health department if your landlord does not offer you help with this. No one renting property needs to deal with something like this or the possibility that they could be crawling all over your food, bedding and clothing. This goes double if you have children. If you do have kids, make sure that they know to never touch any of the pesticides that you are using ... but I am sure that you already thought of that.
Last piece of advice would be to check the outside of your apartment. Look for rotting bushes or plants, people who leave food out for animals or anything that could attract them. Like I said, once they learn the way into a home, you have to really work to get them to stay out.

I don't have any tips but I can tell you why you can't get rid of the roaches. You can't get rid of them because it's an apartment and other people live there who may not be as clean as you. Roaches come over from their apartments when they're done looking for more food and shelter. What you need to do is tell your superintendant and get them to do something about the entire building.

They may be feeding elsewhere, than coming back to yours.
This reminds me of something that happened some 30 years ago. An apartment manager decided to set off roach bombs in a building of eight apartments. The last one the set them off in belonged to a lady who was very strict about keeping her place clean. When she came home, she found it covered in dead roaches. As the bombs spread their gas in each apartment, the roaches went to the next one, and than the next, until they all ended up is hers, where they died.

It is difficult when you live in an apartment because even if you spray or "bomb" your apartment, the little buggers will just go next door until the coast is clear!
You will have to do frequent "maintenance" to keep them at bay. There is a spray out there, (I don't recall the name, I have it at home and I am at work now) you can spray around the edges of your home and it will help. Make sure you empty your upper & lower cabinets/cupboards and spray along the wall in there also.
They can also come in on peoples clothing and shoes, in or on bags from the stores, etc.
Unfortunately, there is no one time fix. And if you decide to move, make sure to wash everything and if possible, bomb the furniture so you don't take them to your new home.

I live in an apartment complex as well, and unfortunately, no matter how clean you are, you aren't going to get rid of them likely because of how your neighbors live. Get roach motels and roach spray and spray your apartment. Ortho Home Defense Max works the best. You can also talk to your landlord, he/she might have a solution as well. Good luck to you!

If you live in an apartment and your place is super clean then they could be coming in from next door. You need to call the apartment manger so they can get the whole building sprayed.

It has been said the roaches have been around longer than man. Even in a super clean habitat, they are still some around. I guess we just have to bear with them.We have no choice.
