Induration greater than 10mm is considered positive. The induration is measured across the width of the arm. To measure the induration, the area is palpated and marked with ink and then measured with a flexible ruler. The redness around the induration is also measured. An induration is a slightly raised hard lump around the area where the test was given. Once a person has a positive TB skin test, they should never have another one given. This test could cause permanent scarring in that person so a chest xray is recommended instead.

Your injection site should look flat within 2-3 days but there may be slight bruising for a negative tb reading....with a positive..there will be a raised area like you had when you were first injected. Also, a positive TB skin test does not necessarily mean you have TB or are a carrier. A chest X ray is the indicator following a positive skin test. Good Luck!

A positive TB test involves redness and swelling when tuberculin is put under the skin. The next thing is to have a chest XRay to see where the focus is and what it looks like.

Mantoux skin test checks for the presence immunoglobulins in your system thus inflammatory response at the site of the subcutaneous injection is a good indication of TB - either a present or past infection. The reaction is measured in the increase in diameter of the injection site. Check with your doctor what the defined parameters are in regard to the different diameters measured. Other tests do exists using skin and sputum.

If it is red and the skin is raised in that area, it could be positive. Check it out with a health care professional.
