Well...if you have your period then you ovulated. Your egg comes out of the ovary and waits 24 hours before it wait to be fertilized. If not, then it dissolves into the fallopian tube. Now that you won't be getting pregnant, you shed your uterin wall (which was getting thicker because waiting to conceive). THat is your period.

So if you have your period, you definitely ovulated. If you don't ovulate every month (meaning you don't get your period every month) you should definitely go to the Gyno!

Ovulation predictor kits determine whether the luteinizing hormone (LH) is detected. The luteinizing hormone (LH) rises right before ovulation occurs. Therefore the kits are supposed to detect whether you're going to ovulate but cannot ensure that you do ovulate.

Women may have a high level of the LH if they have certain conditions such as polycystic ovaries, premature ovarian failure (POF), or for women over age 40 who are experiencing perimenopause. Any of these conditions could result in a false positive result on an ovulation predictor test.

Some women may have what is called an anovulatory cycle, (meaning no ovulation)

The norm is to ovulate once per cycle, however many women have the occasional anovulatory cycle. An ovulation kit looks for hormonal markers to determine if you're ovulating and if you're not, those markers wouldn't be there. Likewise if you're tracking your basal body temperature to determine ovulation, you wouldn't see the rise in temp in an anovulatory cycle.

Even if you don't ovulate in particular cycle, you would still eventually shed the uterine lining. It's not technically a period because it wasn't caused by the normal hormonal feedback system, but it would appear to be one.
