i.e. A neighbor has your lawnmower and says they will return it but does not specify a time frame. How long should you wait before confronting them about it?

P.S. the lawnmower was just an analogy.

You go get it when you want it back. If you didn't tell them that you wanted it back by a certain time then there is no time frame. If you need it, go get it. It doesn't seem like a situation where confrontation is necessary, just that they may have forgotten to return it. Some people are like that. Just go get it back. No need for a "confrontation".

I'd give a couple of weeks unless your lawn needs mowing sooner. Many of us seem to have a problem asking for our own stuff back, as if we think that the person we lent it to will think we're accusing them of trying to keep it. But I usually find they've simply forgotten, and that then makes them feel guilty. Christ, what a complicated world we live in!
